Tandem Clinics by Steve Rodrigues
Note: I am no longer offering tandem clinics.
Becoming a Tandem Pilot is a great way to share hang gliding with those who want to experience free flight but don’t want to go through the learning curve for themselves.
Some pilots also see a Tandem rating simply as the “next step” in their hang gliding career. While Tandem Pilots assume a great responsibility for the well being of both their students and our sport, they can also feel great satisfaction when providing an amazing experience to their tandem students!
I received my Tandem Instructor rating in 1993 and I am now an USHPA appointed Tandem Administrator. I will be happy to teach you everything I know, so you too can become a safe and successful Tandem Pilot!
Anyone may take a tandem clinic but only Advanced (H-4) pilots who meet USHPA requirements will be allowed to fly as pilot in command during a tandem clinic flight. Tandem ratings must be earned and while they are not guaranteed your satisfaction is!
Clinics range from one day for T-1, to three days for Tandem Instructor. I will provide all the equipment required for the T-1 clinics, but T-2 and Tandem Instructor candidates must bring their own gliders and gear.

Please refer to USHPA SOP 2.11 to learn more about
tandem requirements and the three levels of Tandem Pilot ratings.
I may be able to hold a clinic in your area depending on my work schedule and the suitability of your local flying sites. A guaranteed minimum level of attendance would be needed to make this feasible. Feel free to contact me with any questions. Have wings, will travel!
